Role Description

The Associated Press is seeking a Data Analyst to join our expanding Business Intelligence team.

 

The Content Strategy Data Analyst will collaborate with various teams across the organization to collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform editorial and operational strategies. The analyst will work closely with editorial, product, and sales teams to leverage content performance metrics and market trends to enhance customer engagement, optimize content creation and distribution, and identify key opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background, a passion for media and journalism, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights that drive content strategy.

 

In this newly created role, you will play a key part in shaping best practices, advancing our analytics capabilities, and driving business outcomes, all while collaborating with talented colleagues to support strategic goals through data-driven insights.

This is a hybrid role based in AP’s headquarter office in New York, NY.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand the business problems they are trying to address and develop data-driven solutions.
  • Analyze content performance across various distribution channels to assess engagement, reach, and impact.
  • Identify high-performing content and customer behavior patterns to inform content creation and products.
  • Normalize and groom data from multiple and inconsistent sources to prepare it for analysis.
  • Develop internal benchmarks and KPIs.
  • Develop clear, concise reports and visualizations that present complex data in an easily understandable format for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain dashboards that track key content metrics and provide regular updates on content performance and success of content initiatives.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for editorial metrics.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for problem-solving and a strong sense of curiosity
  • Experience analyzing large and diverse data sets to develop fact-driven plans and decisions
  • Experience transforming data into clear narratives and actionable insight
  • Ability to tailor communication style and presentations to different audiences
  • Ability to think creatively to solve complex problems
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across multiple teams
  • Skilled in data manipulation with SQL and Python/R
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBi, R Shiny)
  • Expert Microsoft Excel skills along with proficiency in the full Microsoft Office Suite
  • 2+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a related role
  • Advanced-level proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer

 

Salary & Benefits: The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000 – 85,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors.
